Our Great Pyrenees Family

Our Great Pyrenees Family

We have Great Pyrenees adults both in the home and in the barn protecting both our home and farm.

Living on a large farm has made it possible for us to have this large Great Pyrenees family.

Having this large Great Pyrenees family has in return made it possible for us to raise our small registered babydoll sheep.

Great Pyrenees are known for their loving personality and their generosity toward other animals, but one

should never under estimate the ability of the Great Pyrenees Gaurdian Dog.

This is a breed that is genetically bred to guard, and that they do!

A Great Pyrenees will actually give their own lives to save the stock in which they are guarding.

A Note About Socialization Of New Puppies!

This is a topic that is so often missed by most folks in the market for a new puppy.  It also happens to be a topic that is dear to my heart and I guess has become my specialty.

A happy well adjusted puppy (reguardless of size) must be socialized.

What does tht really mean?  So many people think they understand those words.... but do they really??

To Feathers And Fleece Farm it means A lot of handling of the puppy, and introducing the puppy to other animals.

This is so vital, especially for a livestock gaurdian dog, and for those puppies that will be going to homes that have other pets, and children.

At Feathers And Fleece, we spend hours enjoying our puppies, and playing with them, but we encourage others to visit as well.  The puppies get handled a lot at our farm.

By the time one of our puppies leave they feel very comfortable around people, even in crowds.  Infact we had one lady tell us that she had a hard time walking her puppy ,

because he stopped at each person on the street and waited for his compliments, and pats on the head.

We warn people that our puppies are a bit full of themselves.

We not only expose our puppies at Feathers And Fleece to a variety of people to play with, but we go to extemes to introduce them at an early age to Poultry, Sheep, Cats, and Kittens, other Dogs,

we do not hide them from sweepers, or the sounds of lawn mowers, and weed eaters.

Puppies at Feathers And Fleece are part of our lives and we include them in every part of it.  You will not get a puppy from us that will hide in the corner when you start the sweeper,

or if they hear another dog bark.  The moment that puppies are born on our farm we are cuddling them.

Our female enjoy the fact that we are so involved because they too are so outgoing.

Socialization is the most important from the ages of 4 weeks to 12 weeks.  This is when the puppy will form it's most important social skills.

We will provide you with the best possible start.

MATTIE MAY'S CHARM

Mattie is our oldest female with the largest following, and happens to be my very best friend!

Do not let her massive size( pictured at 126 lbs.) fool you, she is full of love.

She has an OFA certification for both hips and elbows, Mattie is 30 inches at the withers, and has a rare coat that is very soft.

Her coat is unlike most Great Pyrenees outer coats.  Both coats are fine, very soft and  not wiry.

She seems to pass this trait along to nearly 90% of her offspring making her puppies in demand.

In addition Mattie May has a wonderful temperment.  She would have been an excellent service or therapy dog.

She has had several of her puppies go into the service and therapy business,

working in schools for the handicapped,  nursing homes, and most recently

at a homeless shelter.  This is just another reason why a well socialized puppy is so important.

She rarely sheds except for the spring loss of winters coat, that can be brushed away easily.

She has an excellent  jaw line with little to no drooling.

SERINITY'S CHAOS

Serinity (aka Sury) is a superior guardian dog.  She takes her job very seriously.  We litterally have to drag her away from her work.

Sury comes from a large breed bloodline with her father weighing in at 170 lbs. and her mother at 138 lbs.

Her parents are very healthy working dogs at this weight making

Sury's puppies a must for people who want large  working dogs.

Sury carries another rare trait that I adore and have been adored by her followers.

Sury has what some refer to as "husky blue badger markings"  the badger markings at birth were black and faded like they would in an

Old English Sheepdog to a blue gray.  She does look a little scary with the husky markings at 120 lbs.  but she is a lover.

One very important note about Serinity is that she has very tight lips and has not to date had a drooling issue.

This is a most impressive trait in a large breed.

Sury is 29 inches at the withers, and weighs 114.

BELLA OF FEATHERS AND FLEECE

Bell is a super social female that looks in every way like our male (with ofcourse one exception).

She has the same coat and oversized body.  She is the most playful of all of the females.  She spends her time following Sury around the property.

She mimics Sury in her every move.  She is not a fan of poultry, they seem to only irritate her.

She has a super thick coat so she chooses to spend most of her days near the lake.  Bell does not swim, instead she lays half in and half out of the lake.

Since Bell is solid white and has an excellent coat she is ideal for our male.

Puppies for Bell are in huge demand.  Some folks have been waiting for her to have puppies for the past two years.

We expect top show quality, solid white puppies out of this pair.

The only female we have that is patient enough for the poultry is Mattie.

Bella is the most playful of the girls and loves to fetch.  Bella stands 29 inches at the withers and weighs 115.

Maggie Of Feathers And Fleece

Maggie is our youngest female

Needless to say she is spoiled rotten.

Maggie May gets her name from her bloodline as she is a daughter to Mattie and Bogart.

We know from the OFA certifications that  both parents have good hip and elbow history and certifications, and since both parents

have large bloodlines it was wise of us to keep one of our own.

We chose Maggie because she chose us.

She is solid white and spoiled rotten.

Since her birth she has taken moms lead and demanded attention.  She loves to be cuddled and

often forgets her size.  She tries to climb in the laps of  visitors as if she were a little dog.

She loves to help do chores, in particular has a thing  for carrying buckets.

If I leave a bucket unattended for even a second she takes the handle and runs with it.

We have learned she does this so we will chase her for it.

Maggie is very sweet and gentle natured like Mattie, she also carries the soft coat trait.  Making

her a huge hit for farm visitors.

Maggie stands 29 inches at the withers and weighs 110.

BOGART  V

Bogart is our Sire, he is OFA certified for both hips and elbows.  This is very important to us as breeders.

We like to know that the breeding on our farm is of sound body.  The fact that Bogart is from a showdog bloodline was icing on the cake.

He has a wonderful disposition, and even with his massive size fails to scare even a small child.

He is very smart and is very much aware of his enormous size.  He learned early on that jumping up on me to gives kisses

was not such a good idea because we would both end up on the ground.

He is an excellent guardian dog, rarely do I see him in action.  He does his job in a sitting position with a mear bark

the property goes silent.

As most males go, he has a military instinct to urinate the property line.  This is a daily procedure that he takes very seriously.

This is his way of warning others this is his farm and all others stay out.  Having said that he has welcomed all of the other males onto our

property with open paws.  All it took was a short introduction.  Once he knows we are okay with the newcomer he is too.

Bogart is extrememly beautiful, and we are asked almost daily if we will stud him out.

We do not and will not stud Bogart out.  We would never allow him to leave our home, and we cannot have other dogs on our property that might

upset our female harmony or bring disease to our farm.

At Feathers And Fleece Farm we pride ourselves on our good health and happy friendly farm.

Bogart has an Excellent OFA certification and stands 32" at the withers, and weighs 145 lbs in the summer.

RILEY'S DREAM

Riley is our youngest male, and I am totally smitten with him.

He would follow me around the property for hours if I would ask him to.

I can garden and he is totally content just laying at my side.

He is showing signs that he is going to be larger than Bogart.

His head and jaw are everything I would want in a male, his body is of perfect confirmation.

I have been asked so many times if I would part with him and just cannot.

Riley stands 31 inches at the withers, and weighs 125.

Riley has another year before we can concider him full grown.

Great Pyrenees males grow for the first 3 years.

Having Riley allows us to offer another bloodline to clients that might be interested in breeding quality

Great Pyrenees in the future.
